Nestled in a tiny little town in Vermont, Bread and Puppet Theater exemplifies that one cannot survive on bread alone. Rather, we need bread...and art.

Bread and Puppet has a long history of political involvement, extending back to Vietnam activism. The Bread and Puppet papier mache puppets can today be spotted at anti-war and G8 protests...or on Sunday afternoons in Glover, Vermont where a weekly "Dirt Cheap Money and Circus Pageant" can be viewed.

The site of Bread and Puppet theater also is home to the Cheap Art movement launched in 1982 in response to the growing appropriation of art by the corporate sector.

According the the website, "Cheap Art hopes to reestablish the appreciation of artistic creation by making it available to a wider audience and inspire anyone to revel in an art making process that is not subject to academic approval or curatorial acceptance."
